The Vice Chancellor

Professor C. C. Onochie JP attended Christ the King School, Aba, Abia State, St. Patrick College, Ikot Ansa, Calabar, Cross River State (for his Secondary School and Higher School programmes). He obtained his Bachelor of Science (BSc) and Master of Science (MSc) degrees in Food and Industrial Microbiology from the University of the Philippines, Los Banos, Laguna, Philippines. He later had his Doctorate (PhD) degree in Environmental Microbiology from Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Nigeria before he became a Professor of Applied Microbiology.

His teaching experience started at the Immaculate Heart Girls, Secondary School, Aba, Abia State in 1966. After the Nigeria Biafra War, and having acquired his MSc. Degree, he became a Lecturer II at the Institute of Management and Technology (IMT), Enugu. By the time he left IMT for Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK), Awka after the States creation in 1992, he had achieved the status of a Chief Lecturer. At UNIZIK, he was a Senior Lecturer, but became a Professor in 2002. When he attained the mandatory retiring age, he finally retired from the services of UNIZIK but however, continues his academic exploit at the Renaissance University, Ugbawka, as the Dean, College of Natural and Applied Sciences. Presently, he is the Vice-Chancellor of Renaissance University, Ugbawka, Enugu State.

Since 1991, Professor Onochie JP has been an External Examiner to many institutions of higher learning. These include: Institute of Management and Technology (IMT), Enugu, Federal Polytechnic, Nekede, Imo State, Akanu Ibiam Federal Polytechnic, Uwana, Ebonyi State, Federal Polytechnic, Oko, Anambra State, Enugu State University of Science and Technology, Enugu, Enugu State, University of Benin, Benin-City, Edo State, etc.

Many agencies and institutions gained from Prof. Onochie’s experiences, as member of several committees, Example

He was a Consultant to many organizations; among others: Anambra State Environment Sanitation Authority (ASESA) (1993 – 1994); Falcon Petroleum Limited (1996 – Date); Educational Human Development Centre (1999). Also, Prof. Onochie JP is the Editor-In-Chief to many renowned journals; among others: Journal of Science, Engineering and Technology; Journal of Applied Sciences (JAS); World Journal of Biotechnology (WJB) and African Journal of Sciences (AJS). Recently, he was appointed the Editorial Consultant to Journal of Management and Technology (JMT).

Prof. Onochie JP is a member of many Professional bodies like: Philippine Society for Microbiology, Philippine Phytopathological Society, Nigeria Society for Microbiology, Foundation for Africa Development through International Biotechnology (FADIB), American Society for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) and Nigeria Environmental Society (NES).

The achievements of Professor Onochie JP caught the attention of many bodies and institutions hence his awards:

  • Certificate of Merit Award for distinguished Service to Obosi Community in Youth Development by HRH Engr. J. U. Nwakobi, FNSE, Eze Obosi
  • Distinguished Merit Award by the Obosi Development Union (ODU General) for selfless service to the society
  • Installed: “Akwue Isama” of Obosi on January 19, 2013.

Prof. Onochie JP has travelled to many countries including: Philippines, Japan, Thailand, England, Scotland, Italy, etc. He is happily married with children and grand children.
